Big Six teams get ready for playoffs

The Big Six’s top teams are gearing up for the playoffs, coming soon, as the regular season has only two more weekends left. The league leading Carnduff Red Devils lost 3-1 Sunday night in Midale to the Mustangs, capping off a rare .500 week.

The Big Six’s top teams are gearing up for the playoffs, coming soon, as the regular season has only two more weekends left.

The league leading Carnduff Red Devils lost 3-1 Sunday night in Midale to the Mustangs, capping off a rare .500 week. The Mustangs only had 10 skaters compared to the Red Devils’ full compliment of 18. Konrad Prozack, Tyler Hoium and Brad Tomiski each scored for the Mustangs.  Blake McMillen replied for the Red Devils.

But Friday at home, they had beaten the Bienfait Coalers 7-4. Shawn Gallant scored two goals, and Mark Moriarty and Matt Audette each scored a goal and an assist. Dylan Herzberg led the way for the Coalers with a goal and an assist.

The Oxbow Huskies also split the weekend, winning 7-4 over Midale and losing 6-5 to the Yellow Grass Wheat Kings. Taysen Holt scored two goals and an assist for the Huskies against Midale, and Derek Cooney added a goal and an assist. Jason Vermuelen scored two goals for Midale, and Steven Lindenbach chipped in three assists.

Holt scored two goals and an assist against Yellow Grass, as did Brycen Odgers. Cooney had four assists. Troy Miller scored two goals and an assist for Yellow Grass.

With their outbursts this weekend, Holt and Cooney are tied for the league lead in points with 48 each. Carnduff’s Matt Audette is in third place with 45 points.

This weekend will see six games played in the league on Friday and Saturday. Friday, Wawota goes to Oxbow and Carlyle is at Arcola/Kisbey, and Saturday, Yellow Grass is at Carnduff, Midale is at Carlyle, Redvers is at Bienfait and Arcola/Kisbey is at Oxbow.
