Estevan's biggest street hockey game ever will kick off the Cresent Point Energy Western Canada Cup.
The CanElson Drilling Estevan Bruins and Matchett Bay, a real estate development company, have scheduled a family-friendly street hockey game for April 28 on Sillers Street, which is off Trout Avenue behind the Estevan Shoppers Mall. The two-hour game will feature two teams subbing in as many players as possible in front of a cheering crowd of kids, parents and grandparents
“The hockey is free, the entertainment is free and it will just be a fun thing to do ... after work,” said Matchett Bay sales and project manager Derek McWilliam. “Bring the kids out and get ready for the Cup.”
Clark Munroe, director of operations and marketing for the Bruins, said the festivities will begin at 5 p.m. and run until dark. He said in addition to the game, there will be a community barbecue, raffles and members of the Bruins will be in attendance.
“It's a family event for everybody to get involved,” said Munroe. “You don't have to register for it. Just come out, play some street hockey with the Bruins and have a good time.”
