Bruins blown out by Humboldt

Going down by four goals by the middle of the first period is no way to try to win a hockey game.

Going down by four goals by the middle of the first period is no way to try to win a hockey game.

But that’s the hole the Power Dodge Estevan Bruins dug for themselves and they weren’t able to recover in a 6-2 loss to the Humboldt Broncos Tuesday afternoon at the SJHL Showcase.

Bruin goaltender Grant Boldt surrendered four goals in his Bruins regular season debut, making 10 saves in his 12:08 of icetime, before being pulled in favour of Jake Anthony. The Broncos scored twice more in the second before Jayden Davis and Michael McChesney got the Bruins on the scoresheet.  The teams went goalless in the third period and Anthony stopped 22 of 24 shots in his relief appearance.

The Bruins fired 31 shots at Humboldt’s Dane Dow.

Former Bruin defenceman Mark Edmands notched an assist in the game for Humboldt.

Their schedule continues with some road games Thursday at Kindersley and Friday at the Battlefords. Thursday’s result was unavailable at press time.

The Bruins’ next home game is schedule for Oct. 6 against the visiting Broncos.
