Braden Oleksyn and Owen LaClare scored late in the third period to lift the CanElson Drilling Estevan Bruins to a 3-2 victory over the Nipawin Hawks on Friday night in Game 5 of their SJHL quarter-final series.
With the win, the Bruins now trails the best-of-seven series 3-2. Game 6 will be played Sunday night in Estevan at 7:30 p.m. The Bruins will need to win again to extend the series.
Kaelan Holt scored at the 13:26 mark of the first period to give the Bruins a 1-0 lead. But Eric Bolden replied a little more than four minutes later on a power play to leave the game tied after the first period.
Keegan Kjargaard scored midway through the second to give the Hawks a 2-1 advantage. It was the only goal of the frame.
The Bruins were held off the scoreboard for most of the third, and they also had to kill off a two-man advantage for 39 seconds. It appeared they might lose the game and the series, but Oleksyn scored the tying goal with 3:53 to play in the third period to tie the game. And LaClare scored the winning goal on a power play 125 seconds later to extend the series.
Daniel Wapple stopped 28 shots to get the victory in goal for the Bruins. Kristian Stead made 36 saves for the Hawks.
