The Estevan Bruins came up with one of their most impressive efforts of the season Saturday night with a 6-2 victory over the Flin Flon Bombers at Affinity Place.
Erik Boers and Jayden Davis scored 21 seconds apart with less than six minutes remaining in the first period to give the Black and Gold a 2-0 lead.
Each team scored twice in the second, with the goals coming four minutes apart. Griffin Asham-Moroz scored with 6:23 to play in the middle frame to add to the Bruins lead. Caleb Franklin responded with a goal for the Bombers 32 seconds later, but Asham-Moroz scored once again with 3:35 to play in the period.
Tristan Lemyre’s goal for Flin Flon with 2:25 remaining in the period left the Bruins up two after 40 minutes.
Tanner Manz’s power play goal midway through the third period restored the Bruins three-goal lead and Davis scored into an empty net to finish the scoring.
Keenan Rancier made 38 saves for the Bruins in the victory.
The win extended the Bruins winning streak to three, and ended the Bombers six-game winning streak. It was also the Bruins first win over Flin Flon in three meetings this season.
The Bruins improved their record to 24-21-3-1, which leaves them with 52 points with nine games remaining. They sit in the eighth and final playoff spot, five points ahead of the ninth place Kindersley Klippers, but now they are just one point behind the seventh place Humboldt Broncos, and the Bruins have two games in hand.
Estevan will be back on the ice Wednesday night when they host the La Ronge Ice Wolves. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
