The CanElson Drilling Estevan Bruins have dropped the first two games of their series with the Nipawin Hawks.
Grant Baetsen scored 1:56 into overtime to lift the Hawks to a 4-3 victory on home ice in Game 2 of their best-of-seven SJHL quarter-final series on Saturday night.
The Hawks led 2-1 after the first period. Jake Gerbner opened the scoring for the Hawks a little more than seven minutes into the first period. Tyler King tied the game with a power play goal.
Patrick Schmelzinger scored with 1:56 to play in the first to restore the lead.
Hawks’ captain Blake Fournier scored the only goal in the second period, a short-handed tally midway through the frame to give his team a 3-1 advantage.
The Bruins rallied in the third with two power play goals. Braden Oleksyn scored 7:35 into the third period to pull the Bruins to within a goal. Then Keegan Allison scored the tying goal less than three minutes later.
Bruin goalie Daniel Wapple made 25 saves in the loss. Kristian Stead stopped 33 shots to help lift the Hawks to victory.
The Hawks won Game 1 2-1 on Friday night.
The Bruins will host the next two games at Affinity Place. Game 3 is Tuesday night, and Game 4 is on Wednesday. Both games are at 7:30 p.m.
