The Estevan Power Dodge Bruins extended their winning streak to seven games on Tuesday night with a 5-0 victory over the Yorkton Terriers at Affinity Place.

Captain Lynnden Pastachak set the tone offensively in the first period, as he opened the scoring at the 6:33 mark, and added his second of the game less than four minutes later to give the Black and Gold an early 2-0 advantage. Pastachak has recorded at least one point in 15 consecutive games.

Three minutes after Pastachak’s second of the game, Michael McChesney tallied to give the Bruins a 3-0 lead that they carried into the first intermission.

After a scoreless second period – a rarity for Bruin games this year – the Bruins struck twice more in the third.

Isaac Embree tallied 61 seconds into the third period for the Bruins to dash any hopes of a Yorkton comeback. Hayden Guilderson scored with 9:21 left in the game to round out the scoring.

The only lingering question was whether Bruin goalie Curtis Meger would get the shutout. Yorkton pressed late in the game, but couldn’t beat Meger, who stopped 37 shots to pick up his first Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League shutout.

The win came two nights after the Bruins wrapped up a perfect three-game northern road trip. It was the first time that the Bruins have swept a three-game jaunt against northern foes since 2013.

The Bruins now boast the top record in the SJHL at 15-3-0-1, and the most goals in the league with 92.

The Black and Gold will return to the ice on Nov. 4, when they host the Melville Millionaires. The Kindersley Klippers will be in Estevan the following night. Both games start at 7:30 p.m.
