Bruins shut out by the Hawks

The Power Dodge Estevan Bruins dropped a 5-0 decision to the Nipawin Hawks on Wednesday night in the second game of the Bruins six-game home stand.

The two teams were scoreless until late in the first period, when Brandan Arnold scored with 2:17 remaining in the opening frame to give the Hawks a 1-0 lead. Nipawin clung to the one-goal lead until late in the second, when Brett Harasymuk tallied with 2:57 remaining to extend the Hawks lead to two.

Keegan Kjargaard scored on a power play with 17 seconds remaining in the middle frame to give the Hawks a 3-0 lead after 40 minutes.

Eric Bolden accounted for both of Nipawin’s goals in the third. He scored 5:36 into the final frame on a power play to up the Hawks’ advantage to 4-0, and then he scored with 3:31 remaining to finish off the scoring.

Bolden also had two assists to finish with a four-point game.

Kristian Stead stopped 30 shots to get the shutout for Nipawin. Fourteen of his saves came in the third period.

Nathan Alalouf made 33 saves for the Bruins.

The Bruins’ record is 27-14-0-1. They sit 12 points ahead of the Weyburn Red Wings and the Yorkton Terriers for top spot in the Viterra Division.

The Bruins return to the ice on Saturday night when they host the defending SJHL champions, the Melfort Mustangs. That game will start at 7 p.m.
