The Estevan Bruins went 2-for-2 in their home games on the weekend with a 3-1 victory over the Melfort Mustangs Saturday night at Affinity Place.
Estevan led 1-0 after the first period on a power play goal by Tanner Manz, but the story of the opening frame was the play of Bruins goaltender Kennan Rancier, who made 15 of his 32 saves on the night in the opening frame.
After neither team scored in the middle frame, Tyler Savage scored five minutes into the third to extend the Bruins lead to two. Dylan Ashe cut the lead to one, but Griffin Asham-Moroz put the Bruins up by two once again with a power play goal with seven minutes remaining.
The Bruins improved their record to 13-15-2-1, as they continue to inch closer to the eighth and final playoff spot in the SJHL.
Estevan will be back on the ice Monday night when they play the Notre Dame Hounds, starting at 7 p.m. While the game will be played in Midale, the Hounds will be the designated home team.
