The Power Dodge Estevan Bruins continue to roll early in the season, as they swept a home and home with the Yorkton Terriers.
Estevan routed the Terriers 8-1 on Friday night at Affinity Place, and then pulled off a 5-4 overtime victory Saturday night in Yorkton. The Bruins record is 6-2, while the Terriers are 1-5-2.
Captain Jake Fletcher scored twice in a 2:41 span of the first period to give the Bruins an early 2-0 lead on Friday night. It remained a two-goal game until late in the second, when Zach Goberis, Tanner McKechnie and Kaelan Holt scored in the final four minutes to lift the Black and Gold to a 5-0 lead after two periods.
Andrew Warhoftig scored his first SJHL goal early in the third to up the lead to 6-0, and Michael McChesney's goal two minutes later made it 7-0. Chantz Petruic's goal late in the third spoiled Matt Lukacs shutout bid, but Nolan Ferguson scored less than a minute later to round out the scoring.
Holt added three assists to finish with a four-point game.
Lukacs stopped 32 shots to get the victory. Logan Bateman made 44 saves for the Terriers.
Saturday's game was a different story. After a scorless first period, Cody Illerbrun and Petruic scored less than two minutes apart to give the Terriers a 2-0 lead. Johnny Witzke's goal with 2:15 to play in the second pulled the Bruins to within a goal.
Kaleb Bell's goal early in the third restored Yorkton's two-goal advantage.
Tanner Manz' first SJHL goal midway through the third made it a one-goal game again. Goberis tied the game four minutes later, and TJ Irey scored with less than three minutes remaining to give the Bruins the lead.
But Shane Sherban's goal with six seconds remaining in the third sent the game to overtime.
McChesney was the overtime hero, as he scored with 1:18 to play in the extra frame.
Witzke, Goberis and McChesney each added two assists to go with their goals.
Maxim Sidelnik stopped 43 of the 47 shots he faced to get the win in net. Nolan Meier made 53 saves for Yorkton.
The Bruins return to the ice Wednesday night on the road against the Notre Dame Hounds.
