The Power Dodge Estevan Bruins played streak-busters in North Battleford as they took Game 1 of the Canalta Cup semifinal series 5-3 over the Battlefords North Stars Friday night.

The North Stars were riding a 16-game winning streak in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League playoffs dating back to their series loss to Flin Flon in 2016. Before Friday, they win 12 in a row in the 2017 playoffs and four in a row over the Weyburn Red Wings in the quarterfinal.

With a little bit more room, the Bruins’ scorers were able to find the lanes they needed to score. Arthur Miller and Jake Fletcher were each credited with a pair of goals in the game, with Zach Goberis getting the other goal. Jake Heerspink had a pair of assists.

The Bruins used the man advantage well, going 3-for-7 with the extra player in a power-play filled game. The Battlefords were 1-for-7.

Bruins goaltender Bo Didur won his fifth straight game in the playoffs.

Game 2 will go Saturday night in the Battlefords before the series comes to Affinity Place Monday and Tuesday for Games 3 and 4 at 7:30 p.m. both nights.
