The Estevan Bruins have won three straight games for the first time this season, and have moved into a playoff spot in the SJHL standings.
The Bruins trounced the Melville Millionaires 6-1 Saturday night at Affinity Place for their third consecutive victory since the end of the Christmas break.
Melville opened the scoring 5:37 into the second period on a goal by Max McPeak, and it remained a 1-0 game until Eddie Gallagher scored with 7:21 to play in the middle frame to tie the game.
Twenty-one seconds later, Griffin Asham-Moroz scored to put the Bruins ahead for good, and Jayden Davis upped the lead to two 78 seconds after Asham-Moroz’s goal.
Asham-Moroz scored once more before the period was out for a three-goal lead.
Davis added his second of the game 4:31 into the third, and Tylor Ludwar scored midway through the final frame to round out the scoring.
The third period was chippy as well, as there were two fights and numerous other altercations in the frame.
Keenan Rancier stopped 32 shots for the Bruins, who fired 52 shots at Melville goalie Berk Berkeliev.
With the win, the Bruins (16-17-1-2) moved into the eighth and final playoff spot in the SJHL standings, one point ahead of the Kindersley Klippers and the Notre Dame Hounds. The Bruins have games in hand on both teams.
The Bruins will visit the Yorkton Terriers Tuesday night.
