The Big Six Hockey League’s teams are winding down their senior hockey seasons and sorting their playoff positions out.
What’s likely to happen is that the Carnduff Red Devils will remain in first place despite their recent loss to the Yellow Grass Wheat Kings on Saturday. Matt Audette’s pair of goals weren’t enough to keep the Red Devils on top in Yellow Grass, as the Wheat Kings were able to get the winning goal at 15:43 from Troy Miller for his second of the game.
The Redvers Rockets are likely to finish in second place, depending on what happens in their final pair of regular season games. Their 5-2 loss at home to the Bienfait Coalers on Saturday didn’t help matters. Bienfait’s Wyatt Garagan scored a hat trick in the game, scoring the Coalers’ last three goals.
The Wawota Flyers pumped in a good number of goals against the Oxbow Huskies Friday. Ryan Taylor had two goals and an assist, while Kent Sauter scored a goal and an assist. Derek Cooney scored once and had an assist in the loss for the Huskies.
The Midale Mustangs won 4-3 over the Carlyle Cougars. Tyler Hoium’s hat trick helped the Mustamgs to the win, and Braden Kmita had a goal and a pair of assists in the winning cause. Cooper Fox and Brett Johnstone each had a goal and an assist in the losing cause to Carlyle.
The Oxbow Huskies wrapped up their season with a -6 win at Arcola/Kisbey Combines. Taysen Holt had three goals and four assists in the game, while Derek Cooney scored twice with two helpers. Landon Runge scored three goals and an assist for the Combines, and Rhett Palmer and Lucas Hislop chipped in with a goal and an assist.
Carnduff has one final game Sunday at home to Carlyle. Redvers’ last game will be Saturday at home to Midale. Bienfait ends their season with road games Friday at Arcola/Kisbey and Saturday at Wawota.
The scoring race appears to be nearly wrapped up, with Oxbow’s Holt leading the way with 25 goals and 31 assists. Second place is Huskies teammate Derek Cooney with 21 goals and 33 assists. The leading non-Husky is Carnduff’s Matt Audette with 24 goals and 24 asssits.
The Saskatchewan Hockey Associations’ provincials are starting this weekend also with Rocanville at Carnduff Friday, Raymore at Wawota Sunday and Theodore at Carlyle Feb. 17.
