Cardinals capture senior AA provincial championship

The Cardinals, who captured the Saskota Baseball League title late last month, defeated the Yorkton Yankees 4-0 in the provincial gold medal game at Berard Diamond in Kindersley last Sunday. Carlyle went 2-1 during the round-robin portion of the Aug. 12-14 championships losing 2-1 to the Border City Blue Jays to start the tournament before bouncing back with a 5-4 win over the Saskatoon Dodgers, a 13-2 victory against the Arm River Indians and a 13-11 squeaker over the Swift Current Yard Goats in the provincial semifinals.

The Saskota Baseball League’s Oxbow Chiefs, Estevan Tower Wolves and Carnduff Astros competed in the senior AA Tier 3 provincial championships last weekend at Rosetown. The Chiefs went 0-3 at the tournament losing 9-2 to the Bruno Bisons, 4-1 to the Unity Cardinals and 10-3 to the eventual champion Wilkie Brewers.

The Astros enjoyed a better fate going 2-1 in round-robin play before losing 3-1 to Unity in the semifinals. Estevan also went 2-1 in the round robin, but had to beat the Rosetown Angels 7-0 in a tiebreaker game in order to advance to the playoffs where they lost 9-3 to Wilkie in a semifinal match-up.

The Redvers A’s and Windthorst Pirates also represented the Saskota Baseball League in provincial action this past weekend at Langenburg with both clubs competing in the senior AA Tier 4 championships. Redvers went 0-3 in provincials with their final defeat coming to Windthorst courtesy of a 10-2 score. The Pirates notched a 2-1 record before falling 8-6 to the Macklin Lakers in the provincial semifinals. The Langenburg Indians defeated the Lakers 6-4 to capture the senior AA Tier 4 title.
