The Carlyle Cardinals are atop the Saskota Baseball League standings entering the final weeks of the season.
Carlyle improved their record to 10-2 with a 22-7 win over the Windthorst Pirates on June 28 in Carlyle. The Cardinals had a chance to build their lead of June 29, when they hosted the Wawota Pats. (Results were not available at press time).
The Cardinals are 1 1/2 games up on the second place Estevan Tower Wolves, who defeated the host Arcola Threshers 8-2 on June 28.
The Oxbow Chiefs sit in third with a 7-2-3 record. They battled the Redvers A’s to a 10-10 draw on June 27. The Chiefs were also slated to play the Windthorst Pirates on June 30 in Oxbow. (Results were not available at press time).
The Wawota Pats are fourth at 6-4-1. They dropped a 13-3 decision to the Carnduff Astros on June 28, and were slated to be in Carlyle for the game on June 29.
The Carnduff Astros are fifth at 6-5. They are coming off the convincing win over the Pats, and they were scheduled to visit the Threshers on June 30.
The Kenosee Cubs are sixth at 4-6-2, after a 6-3 triumph over the Lampman Pirates on June 28. They were scheduled to be in Redvers for a game against the A’s on June 30.
The Arcola Threshers are seventh at 5-8, the Redvers A’s (4-7-1) are eighth, the Lampman Pirates (3-8) sit ninth and the Windthorst Pirates (2-10) are in last place in their first season in the Saskota league.
Several Saskota teams will be playing in the Big Moose Tournament that will be played in Carlyle and Kenosee Lake from July 1 to 3. Then the focus will return to the regular season, which is scheduled to end July 17.
The Saskota champions will be crowned at the Harbourne Memorial Tournament, which will run from July 22 to 24 at Kenosee Lake.
