Estevan’s Jace Carlisle opened the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour by winning a tournament, and he defeated a fellow Estevan golfer in the process.
Carlisle, 15, and Reegan Robinson, 16, each fired a two-round total of 151 to finish tied for top spot in the juvenile boys’ division at the tournament, held on Saturday and Sunday at the Cooke Municipal Golf Course in Prince Albert. Carlisle had rounds of 75 and 76, while Robinson shot a 74 and a 77.
Their showdown was the closest of the weekend.
“It is my first win, and I feel like I can play with these guys now. I struggled in the past here, and I’m glad I figured it out,” Carlisle said. “I made a lot of great putts down the stretch.”
Carlisle and Robinson were among several local golfers to compete in the tournament. Ryan Chernoff of Estevan finished third in the peewee boys division for 11- and 12-year-olds with a two-round total of 185 (93-92).
Drew Fenwick wound up sixth in the bantam boys (13- and 14-year-olds) with a two-round score of 168 (82-86), and Hudson Chernoff was 11th in bantam boys with a total of 187 (90-97).
Joining Carlisle and Robinson in bantam boys were Chase Gedak, who finished 10th with a two-round score of 166 (86-80), Jayden Dudas, who was tied for 12th with a 168 (85-83), and Logan Chernoff, who was 14th with a 174 (85-89).
The next event on the tour will be held in Lloydminster on June 3 and 4.
