People in Carnduff rallied around their arena last weekend, providing money in a fundraiser that will give their facility new life.
Organizers celebrated the 50th anniversary of the Fast Centennial Arena in Carnduff with the competion of their new floor with tickets to a supper and a band.
“It was fantastic,” said organizer Jodie Wall. “We served 230 for supper and then we had the auction and the band after we got that under control. The floor was completed this year, so we're just raising our half of the Canada 150 grant we received.”
The fundraising is now complete. The town's rink is one of the key meeting places for the community.
“It'll last for many years now,” she said. “It's one of the cornerstones of our community and the lasting power of it now... 50 years minimum would be my guess.”
The rink is used for more than just the hockey and figure skating clubs, she said.
“The Canada Day celebrations are held there, and they hold weddings there,” said Wall. “Lots of things can be held there.”
The revitalization was necessary because of the heavy heaving of the floor. Renovations to the arena took place over the summer.
“Some spots, there was six inches difference in the cement, it was so bad,” Wall said. “Just the ice load we get to carry this year will be a treat for them.”
The floor is in right now and the ice is in the rink, with new benches and a fresh coat of paint on the ice.
