Defending Tankard champion Adam Casey needed his final stone to defeat Regina's Daniel Selke 8-7 in the Wednesday evening draw at the SaskTel Tankard at Affinity Place.
Facing a stone frozen to his own on the button, Casey needed weight and the exact right angle to take it out with his last stone, and he did. Both skips seemed to alternate great shots in the final few ends.
With the win, Casey's rink will now play the Scott Bitz rink Thursday morning at 9 a.m. in the third draw, with Wedneday's other winners playing on the other sheets. In the other matches Wednesday night, Colton Flasch defeated Brayden Stewart 6-5, Bitz defeated Carl deConninck Smith 9-2 and Brock Virtue defeated Randy Bryden 10-6.
Thursday morning's draw will see Estevan's Brent Gedak battling Brady Kendel, Virtue will play Flasch and Steve Laycock takes on Jason Jacobson. Thursday's 3 p.m. draw has Josh Heidt against Jeff Hartung, Ryan Deis against Aaron Shutra, Selke against deConninck Smith and Stewart against Bryden. There will be another draw Thursday evening at 7 p.m. that, if Gedak wins, he'll be playing in.
