The Estevan Power Dodge bantam A Chargers wrapped up their two-game series against the Weyburn Olympia Fitness, with a 6-1 victory at the Civic Auditorium on Feb. 11.

The win advanced them to the next round of the provincial playoffs against Springside.

Taya McKersie opened up the scoring in the first period as the Chargers led 1-0 after 20 minutes.

Estevan went up 2-0 in the second when Araya Wheeler scored in the opening minutes of the period. Weyburn would score a goal late to make it 2-1 after 40 minutes.

Coach Trevor Morrison said the Weyburn goalie played really well in the first two periods, but in the third the Chargers figured her out, scoring four unanswered goals.

Karli Colpitts scored two, and Jasynn Monteyne and Wheeler netted one each.

Morrison said that the slow start didn’t bring the team morale down, and they went back to playing the style of hockey they played to finish the regular season. The goals that they scored in the third were more than enough to advance them to the next round of the provincial playoffs.

Estevan outscored Weyburn 10-1 in the series.

Morrison said that the Chargers will play Springside toward the end of the month, and it will be a challenge as they went undefeated during the regular season.
