Charges, arrest made in Broncos bus crash

There was an arrest Friday morning in the bus crash that claimed the lives of 16 people affiliated with the Humboldt Broncos.

There was an arrest Friday morning in the bus crash that claimed the lives of 16 people affiliated with the Humboldt Broncos. 

Truck driver Jaskirat Singh Sidhu, 29, whose truck collided with the bus the Broncos had taken April 6 to play Game 5 of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League semifinal against the Nipawin Hawks, was charged with 16 counts of dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death and 13 counts of dangerous operation of a vehicle causing injury under the Criminal Code. The crash happened at the intersection of Highways 35 and 335. Sidhu will make an appearance at a Saskatchewan court next week. 

Among the deceased in the crash were Broncos head coach and general manager Darcy Haugan and assistant coach Mark Cross, both of whom were former Estevan Bruins players and/or coaches. 

The truck belonged to Adesh Deol Trucking, Ltd, based in Calgary.
