Comp Eagles boys win the Christmas Classic

The Weyburn Comp senior boys won the championship for their Christmas Classic Basketball Tournament, which was hosted at the Eagle gym on December 9 and 10. In the first game versus Tisdale, the Eagles won 110-31.

The Weyburn Comp senior boys won the championship for their Christmas Classic Basketball Tournament, which was hosted at the Eagle gym on December 9 and 10.
In the first game versus Tisdale, the Eagles won 110-31. The top scorer was Earl Pineda with 25 points, and the top rebounder was Austin Lund with seven.
In the semi-final against Meadow Lake, they won 75-64. The top scorer was Spencer Anderson with 13, and the top rebounder was Rylie Mainil with 12.
In the championship game versus Estevan, Weyburn won by the score of 78-64. Top scorers were Pineda with 15 and Tristan Sharpe with 13. The top rebounder was Paul Dionne with 11.
“Estevan was leading at the half by eight point, but because of the depth of our bench, we were able to outrun and out-rebound them the final five minutes of the game,” said coach Jacquie Williams.
At the Carlton Comp Invitational held over the weekend of December 2 and 3, the Eagles came away with the silver medal after a heart-break loss in the championship game.
In game one versus Meadow Lake, the Eagles on 92-76. The top scorers were Levi Woodard with 20, and Anderson with 18. The top rebounder was Dionne with 13.
In the semi-final against Prince Albert St Mary’s, Weyburn won 65-50. The top scorers were Anderson and Dionne, each with 15. The top rebounder was Mainil with seven.
In the championship game versus Yorkton, the Eagles lost 59-56. The top scorers were Anderson with 16 and Dionne with 15, and the top rebounder was Mainil with eight.
The game went right down to the wire with six seconds left, and with  the game tied Weyburn kept them away from the basket only to have them score a deep three at the buzzer.
The Eagles faced Indian Head on December 14.
