Daryl Donovan is the first round leader in the men’s division at the Frametech Classic at the TS&M Woodlawn Golf Course.
Donovan shot a 4-under-par 68 in the first round to sit three strokes ahead of Preston Erickson. Donovan had an even-par 36 after the front nine, then birdied four holes, including the last two, to finish with a 32 on the back nine.
Erickson is second at 1-under-par 71. Ryan Chernoff and Carson Harcourt are tied for third at 72.
In the women’s division, Roxanne Willerth has the lead after shooting an 80 in the first round. She fired an even par 36 on the back nine.
Jenna Grube and Leanne Schellenberg were tied for second at 88, and Maxine Starkewski is fourth at 89.
Rick Halberg is the leader of the senior men’s division after shooting a 1-over-par 73 in the first round. He shot a 34 on the front nine, but then a 39 on the back, although he did finish well with a birdie on 18.
Earlier this week, Halberg won the provincial senior men’s golf championship.
Mike Ross is second at 74, and Paul Grimes and Kevin Vollet are tied for third at 75.
The tournament will resume Sunday morning at 7:30 a.m. The women’s champion will be decided tomorrow afternoon.
Also, the Dave Price Memorial Horse Race will begin at 3:30 p.m. Sunday afternoon. It will feature the 12 golfers in the championship flight from the men’s tournament, competing in an elimination event contested on the front nine.
There are 124 golfers entered between the different divisions.
