Riese Dignan (144) was in close quarters with Landon Runge (52L) and Riley Raynard (97R) in one of the heats Sunday night at the Estevan Motor Speedway but ended up with enough points for the 2018 Border City Dirt Wars title.

In racing, it has been said no one remembers who finishes in second place, but it was a couple of second place finishes by Riese Dignan in the hobby stocks that led to him claiming the Border City Dirt Wars trophy for the weekend at the Estevan Motor Speedway.

Dignan, from Kenmare, N.D., finished second to Webster City, Iowa’s David Rieks Saturday and to fellow North Dakotan Zach Lutz Sunday. Rieks looked like he would claim a second straight feature race until Lampman’s Diezel Raynard flipped over near turn 2 and in the red flag caution, it was discovered Rieks had a flat tire. He was able to go to the pits and get it changed before the race re-started, but Rieks had to go to the back of the pack after the tire change and couldn’t make up the spots.

In the other feature races Sunday, Minot, N.D.’s Robby Rosselli won the sport modifieds race, Les McLenehan of Estevan won the A modifieds and Minot’s Joren Boyce won the street stocks.

The next race night at EMS is Aug. 3 for the late model special.
