A generous donation will allow some of the biggest fans of the CanElson Drilling Estevan Bruins to attend the upcoming Crescent Point Energy Western Canada Cup.

The donor, who requested anonymity, purchased 10 tournament packages so that participants at Estevan Diversified Services could attend the tournament.

Chris Lewgood, the Bruins head coach and general manager, said the club wanted to reward some long-term fans for their support over the years.

“It was the next day that we had somebody step up,” said Lewgood. “I think it was the first conversation our board members for the Western Canada Cup had, and he gave a resounding ‘yes.’”

EDS participants are among the Bruins most loyal and boisterous backers. Some are season ticket holders, while others have volunteered with the team, so he is pleased that 10 of them will get to attend the tournament.

Lewgood isn’t surprised that someone stepped forward so quickly.

“It’s just typical of the community support for the Bruins and any sort of community events,” said Lewgood. “Estevan always seems to come through when it’s needed, or when there’s a good cause.”

The Western Canada Cup will run from April 30 through May 8.
