Jayden Dudas has resumed his mastery of the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour.
Dudas, who competes out of the TS&M Woodlawn Golf Club, took top spot in the juvenile boys division at the tour’s stop at the Lloydminster Golf and Country Club on June 3 and 4.
Dudas, 14, shot a two-round total of 158 to defeat Matthew Moroz of Edmonton by two strokes, even though Dudas was playing in a higher age group.
He fired a 78 in the first round, which was the lowest score in the juvenile division on either day, to lead Moroz and Josh Nagy of Edmonton by two strokes. Dudas and Moroz both had an 80 in the second round, allowing Dudas to preserve his two-stroke advantage.
“I feel honored and proud (to win) because I’m a lot younger than everyone else,” Dudas said.
He was pleased with his putting, which allowed him to avoid the three-putt.
“I feel like this is a way to get a college to see you and get a scholarship,” he said.
Dudas starred in the tour’s bantam division last year. Among the five Saskatchewan tournaments he competed in, Dudas had one first-place finish and four second-place finishes to take first on the Saskatchewan tour’s Order of Merit. He then took top spot at the tour’s national competition in Phoenix.
Several other local golfers competed in Lloydminster. Ryan Chernoff finished third in the peewee boys division with a 185 total, thanks to a 92 in the first round and a 93 in the second.
Hudson Chernoff was 15th in the bantam boys division with a two-round total of 200 (102-98).
And Logan Chernoff came in 15th in the juvenile boys division with a two-round score of 190 (98-92).
