ECS dominates high school golf districts

There are a few good reasons why the Estevan Comprehensive School's golfers did well at the district championhips held Tuesday at the TS&M Woodlawn Golf Course.

One reason might be that it's their home course that many of them play and practice at several tiems a week. Another might have been the fact they didn't have to travel very far away from school, or get up especially early, to hit Woodlawn.

But the main reason is that they're than good, with the boys getting the top four spots at districts and Bailey Farr leading the Elecs girls to a team title.

“I've played here just about every day this summer,” said Chase Gedek, who carded a 75 to earn the district championship. “I'm really comfortable here.

“I was jiust hitting fairways, hitting greens and two-putting.”

The weather was smoky but calm and there wasn't a drop of rain, meaning scores were fairly low for the day. Gedek, Jace Carlisle, Reegan Robinson and Jayden Dudas will be on the Elecs' boys team – but with Woodlawn hosting Sept. 22-23, they would have been there anyway.

“I felt good. Everyone on our team is playing good so I thought we'd make it anyway, even though we're hosting it,” Gedek said.

Second place in the boys, the team representing the district, was Moosomin and Arcola finished third.

Preparing for provincials will be like preparing for many other tournaments.

“(I'll) just go to the course every day and practice,” Gedek said.

Rocanville's Hallie Burk led the girls with a score of 86 on the day. Lampman's Mackenzie Fleck was second and ECS' Bailey Farr was third.

Among the teams, Estevan's team of Farr, Taryn Stovin, Tatianna Dutka and Reese Handley placed first, with Radville and Carnduff close behind.
