Two days after their season came to an end by winning the Moose Jaw High School Football League’s Tier 2 title, the Estevan Comprehensive School Elecs football team handed out their awards.
Hunter Eagles and Jonah Bachorcik were the big winners. Not only did they share the team’s MVP award, but Bachorcik, a running back, was named the team’s offensive player of the year, while Eagles, a safety, was selected as their defensive player of the year.
Nose tackle James Knibbs, slotback Shanelle Rioux and receiver Nigel Mack shared the Who Are We/Bryan Illerbrun Memorial Award. Illerbrun was an offensive lineman from the Gainsborough area who went on to play in the CFL, and won a Grey Cup with the Saskatchewan Roughriders in 1989.
Knibbs also won the Lineman of the Year and the Players Choice Awards.
The other award winners were defensive back Mason Mack was named the Rookie of the Year and kicker Ilya Koria was named the top special teams player.
Also, the Ironman Award went to Bachorcik, Knibbs, Rioux, Rylan Trobert and Chris Sutter. It is presented to those who started with Penta Completion Estevan Minor Football in the atom division and kept playing football until Grade 12 with the Elecs.
The Elecs also recognized the Grade 12s who graduated from this year’s team.
