Lampman’s Edwin Hookenson, who is in his senior year with the Minnesota State Mavericks, has been named the Western Collegiate Hockey Association’s Defenseman of the Week for the past week.
Hookenson, who played his minor hockey in the southeast until he was in midget, led the Mavericks to a 4-4 overtime tie and a 2-1 win over 16th-rated North Dakota in a pair of nonconference games played in Mankato, Minn.
Hookenson scored twice over the course of the two games with the Fighting Hawks, with four shots on goal, one blocked shot and a plus-2 rating. He tallied his first goal of the season in the 4-4 tie with the Fighting Hawks and then chalked up his first career game-winning goal when his even-strength marker at 5:21 of the third period broke a 1-1 tie, leading to Minnesota State's 2-1 victory.
He is an alternate captain for the Mavericks this season.
The second-ranked Mavericks (3-0-1) begin Western Collegiate Hockey Association action this weekend with a pair of road contests at Alabama Huntsville.
