Eels win six medals in first swim meet

The Estevan Golden Eels Swim Club competed in their first swim meet of the season in Humboldt on June 20, and placed second overall. Seventeen Golden Eels swam in the meet, with six of them earning medals.

The Estevan Golden Eels Swim Club competed in their first swim meet of the season in Humboldt on June 20, and placed second overall.

Seventeen Golden Eels swam in the meet, with six of them earning medals.

Two swimmers received a gold medal, Lucas Dzeryk, in the 10-and-under boys division and Hannah Mantei, in the 12-and-under girls division.

Mantei finished first in all five events she competed in, and also broke a provincial record in the 12-and-under girls 100 metre individual medley event. The previous record was 1:20.88 and she swam in 1:20.71.

Dzeryk also finished first in all five events he competed in.

Josh Wilson earned silver in the 12-and-under boys division. And the bronze medalists were, Adah DeLeeuw in the 12-and-under girls division, who finished third in all four of her events, Denver Sehn in the 10-and-under boys category, and Garret Ross, who earned two second-place finishes and a third and first place finish in the 15 to 17 boys age group,

The next swim meet for the club will be June 27, in Estevan at the R.M. of Estevan Aquatic Centre. It is the only swim meet the Golden Eels will be hosting this year.
