The Estevan Comprehensive School Elecs senior girls knocked off the second ranked Moose Jaw Peacock Toilers 65-61 in their first game at the 4A provincial basketball championships in Prince Albert and now await their opponent for the final.
The Elecs, ranked third in the province before regionals, used their defensive rebounding skills to keep Peacock off the scoresborad through much of the second, third and early fourth quarters. The Elecs opened up a 61-44 lead with four minutes gone in the fourth quarter but Peacock's fast break game and ood shooting brought them back to within a possession twice in the last minute.
ECS were not to be denied, and good free throw shooting late sealed the game.
The Elecs will play the winner of Friday night's game between the fourth ranked Moose Jaw Central Cyclones and the top ranked Melfort Comets for the 4A provincial final, scheduled for 7 p.m. Saturday.
