The Estevan Comprehensive School Elecs senior boys basketball won a tournament in Swift Current over the weekend.
Estevan won all four games they played, defeating the host Swift Current Colts 90-81 in the tournament opener, and then taking two close games, 63-62 over the Moose Jaw Vanier Vikings and 87-81 in overtime over the Moose Jaw Peacock Toilers.
The final wasn’t as close, as ECS trounced the Balgonie Greenall Griffins 90-63.
Estevan led Swift Current 27-19 after the first quarter and 51-35 at half-time. The Colts outscored the Elecs 24-18 in the third quarter to pull within 10, but couldn’t draw much closer in the fourth quarter.
The game with Moose Jaw Vanier was close throughout. The two teams were tied at 21-21 after the first quarter, and Estevan led 39-37 at half-time. The second half was much tighter defensively, as Estevan led 55-53 after three quarters, and then the two teams combined for just 17 points in the fourth quarter.
The Elecs game with the Toilers was also close throughout. Estevan held a 14-10 lead after the first quarter, and a 34-31 lead after two. The lead was down to two points after three quarters, and the Toilers outscored the Elecs by two in the fourth to force extra time.
The Elecs outscored the Toilers 15-9 in overtime.
In their final game, the game was relatively close early, as Estevan led 19-15 after the first quarter, but they extended the lead to 45-35 at half-time. The advantage was up to 71-49 after three quarters, and the Elecs outscored Balgonie 19-14 in the final frame.
Anders was the top scorer in each game, as he had 39 points against Swift Current, 33 versus the Vikings, 24 against the Toilers and 26 against the Griffins.
