The Estevan Comprehensive School (ECS) Elecs senior girls volleyball team had a couple of good sets in the first day of their home tournament Friday and a couple of sets they’d rather put behind them.
The Elecs ended the day 3-3 in sets, a pace which should get them safely to the playoffs tomorrow after the seven team round robin at the ECS gym. They split their opening two sets 17-25, 25-21 against Lampman High School, swept Moose Jaw Central 25-10, 25-13 and were swept by Moose Jaw Vanier 23-25, 10-25.
“Overall, we played fairly well,” said Elecs head coach Nicole Rogalski. “It is tough coming in when you have friends and all of your family coming to watch. With every sports game, your mental game is really tough and I think that’s what got us in our last game. Overall, I think they did quite well.”
A team on the rise, Vanier were able to move the ball well around well against the Elecs.
“We expected some tall girls with some big hits and some fairly good defence so what we saw was kind of what we expected,” Rogalski said.
Saturday’s matches will see the Elecs hit the court at 9 a.m. against Saskatoon Christian School, 11 a.m. against Midale and 1 p.m. against Carnduff.
“They need to regroup and focus within themselves,” said Rogalski. “We do deep breathing and a little bit of meditation and focusing on what we need to work on, and our game. That’s helped us for the most part.”
Playoffs are scheduled to start at 2 p.m. with the championship match at 4 p.m.
