The Estevan Comprehensive School Elecs senior boys basketball team had a fair bit of success last weekend once again as they went 4-1 in five games in a tournament in Brandon, Man.
The Elecs took part in the Brandon Sun Spartan Invitational Tournament as they took on teams they won’t get to play in many tournaments in Saskatchewan.
They opened the tourney with a win over Selkirk Regional 85-59 in the round robin and then took Winnipeg’s St, Johns Ravenscourt 94-53.
Their lone loss in the tournament came in the last game in the round robin to Winnipeg’s Sanford Collegiate 73-71.
“That was a tough loss,” said Elecs head coach Carmon Lindquist. “That put us in second place in our pool.”
They won both of their following games, defeating the Treherne Tigers 79-52 in the semifinal and then Northland Parkway 100-51 in the playoff bracket final.
While John Andres led the team in scoring in each of the first four games, Feranmi Adebiyi was the Elecs leading scorer in the final with 24 points.
The Elecs have only lost one game this season through their two tournaments.
“Really pleased with the progress of the boys with where we’ve come and where we are at this point in the season,” said Lindquist. “We’ve kind of got that clear path to what we need to do. This loss… we’ve turned that into a positive.”
