The Estevan Comprehensive School Elecs senior boys and girls basketball teams won their opening games at their respective regional basketball tournaments.
The senior boys are competing in the 5A division’s rural regional playdown, and they defeated Swift Current 97-57 on Friday evening. They will play the host team, Yorkton Regional, in a semifinal game that is slated to start at 11:45 a.m.
The winner of that game will advance to the Hoopla provincial tournament next weekend in Saskatoon, as two teams will qualify from the rural regional tournament.
The Elecs senior girls team is competing in the 4A division and entered in a regional playdown in Notre Dame. They knocked off Nipawin 84-62 in their opening game of the tournament.
Estevan will play host Notre Dame in a game to decide which team will advance to Hoopla. Only one team advances to Hoopla from the Notre Dame regional.
