Some brand new medallists showed up in class at Estevan Comprehensive High School Monday morning, fresh from Saskatchewan High School Athletic Association (SHAA) track and field provincials in Saskatoon.
Morgan Fichter won gold in the senior girls' triple jump with a trio of leaps at 11.67 metres, only 0.35 metres away from a provincial record. Caz Barnstable won bronze in the junior girls 100 metre dash with a time of 12.85 seconds.
In the quad, Tatiana Duke won bronze in the senior girls' event with 2,307 points in four events. Teammate Nikita LeBlanc placed 15th with 1,628 points. Jordan Fichter was 21st among senior boys with 1,863 points.
Nearly getting a medal was Donny Mortenson in the senior boys high jump. He had a successful jump of 1.83 metres, only 0.03 metres away from the bronze medallist.
In the field events, Taylor Haux was fifth in midget girls javelin with a throw of 29.65 metres, 1.5 metes away from the bronze medallist.
Hunter Wallster was sixth in the midget boys' discus with a distance of 35.81 metres, only 2.59 metres away from a bronze medal. Erik Gusikoski was 26th in senior boys with a throw of 26.92 metres.
Fichter placed 10th in the senior girls long jump at 4.64 metres, and midget girl Sarah Dacuycuy had a long jump of 4.66 metres, earning her 13th place. Dacuycuy placed 14th in the midget girls triple jump at 9.47 metres and Trinity Rooks was 18th at 9.31 metres.
Barnstable finished 11th in the junior girls triple jump at 9.73 metres.
In the long distance running, Carter Davenport was 11th in the senior boys' 3000 metre race with a time of 10:31.67 and teammate Tommy Massett was 21st at 11:13.07
Madison Folkerts placed 22nd in the midget girls' 800 metre run with a time of 2:48.39, a little over 20 seconds away from a bronze. Jaslyn Monteyne placed 25th in the senior girls run with a time of 3:10.87. Sammy Wade was 20th in the senior girls' 1500 metre run with a time of 6:08.81.
