Estevan Bears get three of four points in Tisdale

TISDALE - The Estevan Great North U18 AAA Bears picked up three of a possible four points during their weekend games at the Tisdale Trojans.

The Trojans rallied from deficits of 2-0 in the first period and 3-2 after two periods to defeat the Bears 4-3 in overtime on Saturday night.

Jase McNichol opened the scoring for Estevan with 3:48 to play in the first period, and Thomas Ries added to the lead 3:25 into the second. After the Trojans scored twice in 2:10 to tie the game, McNichol scored with 55 seconds to play in the second to put Estevan back in the lead.

The Trojans' Pryce Thiessen tied the game with 1:58 to play in the third period and scored the winner with 48 seconds remaining in overtime.

Cole Ivey made 42 saves for the Bears.

The Bears turned the tables on the Trojans on Sunday, as Tisdale led 2-0 in the first period and 3-2 after 40 minutes, but Estevan won 5-3.

Evhan Allan scored in the first period and Cooper Flath tallied in the second to tie the game for the Bears, but Tisdale took back the lead midway through the middle frame.

Marc Belanger tied the game for the Bears early in the third, Talen Wallis put the Bears ahead less than three minutes later and Ries finished the scoring with an empty-net goal with 61 seconds to play.

Conner Brady made 32 saves to get the win for the Bears.

Earlier in the week, the Bears beat the Yorkton Maulers 5-3 on Wednesday night. Wallis and Carter Onrait scored in the first period to give the Bears a 2-0 lead, and Taye Shukin and McNichol had goas in the second to give the Bears a 4-0 edge with 8:33 to play in the middle frame.

Yorkton scored three times in the final 10 minutes of the third to pull within one, with the final two goals coming 19 seconds apart in the final two minutes, but Ries scored into an empty net to dash any hopes of a comeback.

Ty Fehrenbach made 29 saves for the victory.

Onrait and McNichol are now tied with Prince Albert's Owen Nelson for the league lead in scoring with 27 points each.

Estevan (11-7-3) will host the Warman Wildcats on Nov. 25 at 2 p.m. and at 2:45 p.m. the following day.
