Local lacrosse teams have been busy during the past week, thanks to home games on Saturday and road games for some of the teams in Weyburn.

The Estevan novice Vipers lost 4-3 to the Moose Jaw Mustangs on Saturday morning, but then they rebounded to beat the Weyburn Threshers 6-2 on Tuesday evening.

Jade Jumbe opened the scoring with 10:20 to play in the first period, but then the Mustangs responded with a goal before the end of the first and another in the second to take a 2-1 advantage after two periods.

Cowan Ludtke scored to tie the game at twos midway through the third period, but then the Mustangs scored twice in a 3:23 span late in the third for a two-goal advantage.

Tannyn Curtis’ goal with 41 seconds left in the third pulled the Vipers to within one, but they couldn’t muster the tying marker.

Three nights later, the Vipers scored three times in the second period in the win over the Thrashers. Ludtke opened the scoring with 6:21 to play in the first, but a Weyburn goal with five seconds to play in the stanza tied the game.

Kristian Baniulis, Hayden Lheritier and Kashtin Casemore scored in a five-minute span of the second to give the Vipers a 4-1 advantage. Casemore scored again in the third to up the advantage to 5-1, and after a Weyburn goal, Brandon Driedger tallied in the final minute to finish the scoring.

Marcus Jumbe was in goal for both games.

The Estevan peewee Voltz scored four times in the first period in a convincing 9-4 victory over the host Weyburn Thrashers on Monday night.

Corby Lemke scored less than two minutes into the first period to give the Voltz a 1-0 lead, and then Seth Peters and Nathan Wagstaff scored less than a minute apart to add to the advantage. Wagstaff scored again before the period was out, but Weyburn also scored to make it 4-1 after the first.

Weyburn outscored Estevan 3-2 in the second to pull within two goals. Chase Foord and Shaun Von Sprecken had Estevan’s goals.

But two goals by Wagstaff in the opening six minutes of the third period dashed any hope of a Weyburn comeback, and then Ryder Davidson scored late in the third to finish the scoring.

Levi Hollingshead was in goal for the win.

The Estevan midget Thunder dropped a pair of home games against the Regina Rush on Saturday, but recovered for a win over Weyburn on Monday.

The first game against the Regina Rush was a 13-3 defeat. Dylan Pratt scored twice late in the second, and then Leighton Mus had a goal for the Thunder early in the third.

The Rush had leads of 7-0 after the first period, and 10-2 through two.

The second game saw the Thunder lose 7-2. The Rush led 5-0 after the first period, and 7-0 after two.

Pratt had both goals in the third period.

Owen Williamson started both games in goal. He left midway through the game due to an injury, and Carter Bonokoski finished the contest.

But against Weyburn, the Thunder scored four times in each of the first and the third periods in a 9-1 route.

Bonokoski, who was playing his normal position again, opened the scoring, and goals by Kyler Gervais, Cale Adams and Pratt gave the Thunder the four-goal lead after the first period.

Each team scored once in the second, with Bonokoski scoring his second of the game for the Thunder.

Then Mus, Kaden Ludwig, Pratt and Jacob Dukart scored in the third.

Cole Blondeau was in goal for the win. He was called up from the bantam Warriors for the game, and not only did he limit the Threshers to one goal, but he assisted on Bonokoski’s opening tally.
