The Wil-Tech Warriors defeated the Intercepticons 38-8 in the third and deciding round-robin game to win the Penta Completions Estevan Minor Football (EMF) flag football fundraiser championship at Chow Field last Saturday, but many more gridiron-glory opportunities are still ahead.

EMF president Kevin Mortenson said three teams entered the flag football tournament raising about $200 for the local football organization’s operating costs. He said the hope is that eight co-ed teams will sign up for their next tourney at Chow Field on June 11.

“After June 11 there is our big one, which I’m calling the Canada Day Massacre,” said Mortenson, noting team registration costs are $100 for June 11 and $250 for the Canada Day long weekend. “That will be over at Woodlawn Field. We’re going to have a beer garden there just to the side of the concession…so that will be a two-day event, July 1 and 2.”

Mortenson said there will also be a fourth flag football EMF fundraiser tournament on Aug. 6 at Chow Field, which is also the day that the winners of the organization’s concert raffle will be announced.

“That’s for two tickets to Luke Bryan and Little Big Town,” he said. “That is Friday, Aug. 19, and that will be the grand opening of the U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Then Saturday night, Aug. 20, is Metallica with Avenged Sevenfold and there will also be two tickets for that. We’re going to pay your hotel for Friday and Saturday night, we’re going to supply you with a $1,000 U.S. Delta Airlines gift card and also a $500 U.S. Visa card to accompany that.”

Only 2,500 tickets, at $10 each or 3 for $20, are available for the raffle. Purchasing raffle tickets and signing up for a future flag football tournament can be done by contacting Mortenson at [email protected] or 306-421-3377.
