Estevan team wins 18U men’s volleyball provincials, Oxbow claims bronze in 17U women

Some southeast teams did very well at the 17U Women, 18U Women and 17U Men’s volleyball provincials last weekend.

The Estevan Southeast Giants Orange team placed seventh in the 18U Men’s Division I Tier I, but the Estevan Southeast Giants’ Black team won the Division I Tier II division. 

The Giants’ black team went 1-1 in the round robin against the Meadow Lake 17U-2 team and Saskatoon’s HVC. Then, in the re-pool, Estevan dropped a pair of sets to the HVC 18U, lost in three sets to Meadow Lake 17 U-2 and won in straight sets over the Melville Vipers. Based on the tiebreaker, they ended up finishing second in the repool.

Once in the re-pool they defeated Meadow Lake 17U, Meadow Lake 17U-2 and the Melville Vipers 25-20, 25-23 in straight sets to win the gold. 

In the 18U women’s Division I, the Carlyle Redcoat Rebels ended up finishing eighth, while in the 17U women’s Division I, the Oxbow Black Knights were third place. In the 17U women’s Division 2, Tier I, the Estevan Extreme placed fifth.

Oxbow won their three matches in the round robin, defeating Regina’s QCVC Royal Purple, Saskatoon’s JCVC Red and Rose Valley. Once in the playoff round, the Black Knights defeated the Rustlers but lost to the Toppers En Fuego in the semifinal.

Oxbow defeated Saskatoon’s HVC Huskies 18-25, 25-19, 15-6 in three sets to claim the bronze medal.
