Kristen Skjonsby of the Estevan Comprehensive School’s (ECS) senior girls basketball team played for Team South in the Daytona All-Star Game this past weekend in Saskatoon.

The top 10 grade 12 players in the province represented the south, as well as the north.

The south won 62-56, with Kristen scoring five points and collecting three rebounds. Although she didn't have a lot of points she contributed with a lot of assists.

ECS senior girls basketball coach Jesse Smoliak, who was at the game, said Skjonsby had a great defensive game, by putting pressure on the North's guards, causing turnovers.

“She took a lot of great shots from outside of the key but only had one three fall, and she finished an awesome fast break lay-up,” Smoliak said

Smoliak also added that there were only three players from each team including Skjonsby, that represented the rural side, and she was very proud of how Kristen represented rural basketball.

Kristen has had offers from a number of colleges and universities and has narrowed it down to two colleges who offer the education program that she is interested in, which are Lethbridge College and Medicine Hat College, Smoliak said

“I am very excited for Kristen to play at the next level. After watching her play and compete with the best players from the province, I know she will do well,”Smoliak said.
