The Estevan Extreme under-16 girls volleyball team reached a tournament final at the Conexus volleyball provincial tournament this past weekend in Saskatoon.
Competing in Division 2 of the tournament, the Extreme opened provincials by dropping a pair of close games. They lost 2-1 (19-25, 25-17, 15-10) to the Macklin Rage, and then they were defeated 2-1 (25-15, 19-25, 15-7) by the Regina Queen City Volleyball Club (VC) Voltage.
They recovered to win 2-1 (25-21, 15-25, 15-11) over the Saskatoon QCVC Black, but then they lost 2-1 (20-25, 25-14, 15-10) to the Outlook VC Thunder in their final round-robin game. The Extreme finished with a 1-3 record in the round-robin.
The Extreme were slotted into the division’s second tier, and they mustered a 2-0 (25-14, 31-29) win over the Warman VC, which punched their ticket for the Tier 2 gold medal game. But they were defeated 2-0 (25-21, 25-17) by the Prince Albert VC Smashing Bananas, so the Extreme came home with the silver medal.
