Fessler rink loses final at Regina youth spiel

The Trent's Tire Curling team based out of Estevan competed in the Regina Youth Bonspiel Dec. 27-30. The rink includes skip Colby Fessler, third Karlee Fessler, second Layne Hawrylak and lead Taylor Marcotte.

The Trent's Tire Curling team based out of Estevan competed in the Regina Youth Bonspiel Dec. 27-30.

The rink includes skip Colby Fessler, third Karlee Fessler, second Layne Hawrylak and lead Taylor Marcotte.

They were entered in the 17-and-under boys/mixed Howard Rogers Event. On Dec. 27, Trent's Tire competed twice at the Caledonian Curling Club. in their first action of the bonspiel, they played Team Williamson from Regina, defeating them by a score of 9-2 in six ends.

Their second game of the day was against Team Shiplack. This was a close game, coming down to the last rock, with Team Shiplack hitting and rolling out to give Trent's Tire the victory by a score of 6-5.

On Dec. 28, the Fessler rink's lone game was at the Tartan Curling Club against Team Mosiman, with the Estevan rink winning 8-2.

On Dec. 29, they were on the ice twice. The first game was a 7-2 win over Team Boettcher from Shellbrook in seven ends. The second was a 7-2 win over Team Tokarz from Weyburn, a game that lasted only six ends.

The team's 5-0 record sent them to the championship event, where they defeated Team Light from Moose Jaw 7-5, running their opponents out of rocks in the final end.

The win advanced the Fessler rink to the final in the Howard Rogers event, where they lost 5-2 to Team Richards from Assiniboia.
