The first night of the Canadian Dirt Wars double-header at the Estevan Motor Speedway Saturday night attracted nearly 100 drivers to the track.
The program brought in 31 modifieds, which meant a B-main qualifier was needed to give drivers a second chance to reach the feature, along with 27 hobby stocks, 15 sport mods, 14 stock cars and 11 slingshots.
Tom Berry Jr. of Newburg, N.D., was the winner of the modified feature. Berry won the recent Dakota Classic Modified Tour. Local favourites Tyson Turnbull and Kody Scholpp were second and third, respectively.
Zach Dochter of Norwich, N.D., Kelly Bauman of Weyburn, Gregg Mann of Estevan and Berry won the qualifying heats. Isaiah Geisel of Torquay won the B event qualifier.
David Rieks of Webster City, Iowa finished first in the hobby stock race. Landon Runge of Lampman was second and Trevor Haas of Bismarck, N.D., came in third.
Rieks, Brad King of Minot and Riese Dignan of Kenmare, N.D., won the qualifiers.
In the sport mod class, Robby Rosselli of Minot was the winner. Brady Bjella of Williston was second and Darren Medler of Minot was third.
Blake Penna of Estevan was the top local driver; he finished sixth.
Bjella and Philip Keller of Sidney, Mont., won the heats.
Jeremy Swanson of Estevan was the winner in the stock car class, finishing ahead of another local driver Chris Hortness and Williston’s Mike Hagen.
Swanson and Midale’s Devon Gonas won the qualifying heats.
Ryder Raynard of Estevan was the winner in the slingshot class, followed by Keenan Glasser and Dexter Saxon.
Raynard and Glasser won their qualifying heats.
The dirt wars weekend double-header will wrap up Sunday night. Racing starts at 6 p.m.
