Penta Completions Estevan Minor Football (EMF) will wrap up its learn-to-play flag football season this Sunday with a special kids versus parents game at Chow Field, but many more events will keep the pigskin top of mind over the summer months.

Kevin Mortenson, president of EMF, said 20 kids between the ages of six and seven years old played flag football his spring at Chow Field. He said the mid-May to late-June season is a springboard for the players onto the atom Miners, which features eight and nine year old athletes.

“It's been manageable this year,” said Mortenson. “We've had some parents step in and coach and I just officiated. It's pretty good. The kids seem happy. The parents are faithfully and religiously (here) every Sunday.”

Mortenson said they're still looking for more kids to register for the atom Miners and bantam Steelers (13-15 year olds) football programs before their season starts this fall. He said there are about 18 kids signed up for the Miners, 22 athletes registered for the Steelers and close to 40 players set to suit up with the peewee Chargers (10-12 year olds) so far.

Shortly after the learn-to-play flag football season comes to a close, EMF will host it's two-day adult flag football tournament at Dana Quewezance Memorial Field on July 1 and 2. Mortenson said the fundraiser tournament will feature a beer garden and hopefully a full slate of fun competitive games over the two days if enough teams take part.

A second flag football tournament is then scheduled for Aug. 6 at Dana Quewezance Memorial Field. EMF will also draw the winner of their Rockin' The Country Weekend raffle on Aug. 6, which features tickets to Luke Bryan's Aug. 19 and Metallica's Aug. 20 concert in Minneapolis as well as airfare, accommodations and spending money.

Mortenson said parents looking to register their kids for football this fall, any teams looking to enter the flag football tournaments or anyone wanting to purchase some raffle tickets can contact him at 306-421-3377 or [email protected].
