The Prince Albert Raiders have advanced to the Western Hockey League (WHL) final.
The Raiders defeated the host Edmonton Oil Kings 4-2 on Sunday night to win the best of seven Eastern Conference Final in six games.
Prince Albert scored three times in less than four minutes in the first period to lead 3-1 after the first. After the two teams traded goals in the second, neither team scored in the third.
The Raiders have strong local connections, as their captain, Brayden Pachal, is a defenceman from Estevan who is in his fourth season in the league. Pachal has a goal and six points in 16 games in the postseason this year.
Forward Cole Fonstad is also from Estevan. He is in his third season in the WHL, and has a goal and four points in 14 postseason games.
Fonstad was selected in the fifth round by the Montreal Canadiens in last year’s NHL Entry Draft.
The Raiders will play the Vancouver Giants in the league final. Games 1 and 2 will be played Friday and Saturday night, respectively, in Prince Albert.
