Brady Kendel’s slow, deliberate pace helped earn him a victory over Estevan’s Brent Gedak Thursday morning at the SaskTek Tankard.

Kendel’s team used both of their timeouts on successive shots by their third in the fifth end. They wouldn’t need them as they counted five in the seventh end after a draw to the eight foot and the teams shook hands with the score 10-4 for Kendel.

The ice was tough to read for the Gedak rink, which include third Clint Dieno, lead Shawn Meyer and second Derek Owens.

“We just had some inconsistencies,” Gedak said. “We were getting some curl when we weren’t expecting it… all game we were juggling them around. We practice this all year what’s going to happen if we come up against that. We’ll just write down what we learned and try to go from there.”

The fact that the morning draw wasn’t a factor, Gedak said.

“You’ve got to get up for every game, it just didn’t matter,” he said. “We just didn’t play well.”

In the other morning draw matches, Steve Laycock defeated Jason Jacobson 8-3, Colton Flasch defeated Brock Virtue 10-4, and Scott Bitz defeated Adam Casey 9-8.

Gedak will now play the winner of Jamie Deis and Aaron Shutra’s match this afternoon. The other afternoon draws include Josh Heidt against Jeff Hartung, Daniel Selke against Carl deConninck Smith and Brayden Stewart against Randy Bryden.
