Brent Gedak’s rink is backed against the wall after a 7-5 loss Thursday night at the 2018 SaskTel Tankard.

Gedak lost to the Ryan Deis rink at Affinity Place after a series of picks and missed shots by Gedak’s team handcuffed the hometown skip.

“There’s nothing you can do about the picks,” said Gedak.  “They’re out there and we have to adjust to how we throw our rocks. The other team never had any. They were throwing with a little more rotation than us… It’s part of the game.”

Gedak curled well at times, playing a perfect hit and roll to count two in the fourth end to tie at that time 2-2. But it wasn’t enough for a well-curled game by the Deis team.

Gedak now plays every game as must-win in order to stay alive. He’s got Randy Bryden at noon Friday in that day’s second draw.

Other scores from draw 5 were Brady Kendal beating Steve Laycock 8-7, Adam Casey defeating Bryden 12-6 and Colton Flasch defeating Scott Bitz 8-6.

Friday morning’s draw at 8 a.m. will see B-side matches Carl deConninck Smith against Brock Virtue and Josh Heidt against Jason Jacobson, and must-win C side matches between Daniel Selke and Brayden Stewart, and Aaron Shutra against Jeff Hartung.

The draw Friday at noon will have A-side final Flasch against Kendel, B-side semifinalists Laycock versus Casey and Deis against Bitz, and the C-side battle between Gedak and Bryden.

There will also be draws at 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. Friday.
