When Polonius said to his son Laertes in Hamlet, ‘Neither a borrower nor a lender be; for loan oft loses both itself and friend’, he wasn’t talking about water polo.
A couple of teams needed some extra players so the Estevan Sharks water polo program was able to loan out a few for a tournament in Regina this weekend.
The Sharks’ U16 cadet girls loaned a couple of players to the Regina Armada team on the weekend who were short a few swimmers but they ended up playing a more developmental tournament as a result. The Sharks finished 2-3.
The U14 girls bantam team went 2-2-1 in their five games despite missing Tayla Gervais, who is out with an injury. The Sharks sent two bantam teams to the tournament. The Reef Sharks went 2-1-1 and the Tiger Sharks went 1-3.
The Reef Sharks benefitted form the Tiger Sharks’ generosity by borrowing one of their players for each game. The Reed Sharks tied Regina Submarines 5-5, defeated the Regina Dreadnoughts 8-1 and lost to the Regina Destroyers 4-3. They came back in the last game and defeated the Weyburn Hurricanes 11-1.
The Tiger Sharks lost 5-4 to the Destroyers and defeated Weyburn 9-1. The Tiger Sharks followed with an 8-5 loss to the Submarines and 6-5 loss to the Dreadnoughts.
The Sharks will be in the water for a provincial tournament Dec. 8-9.
