One of the most respected individuals in the history of the Estevan Bruins is going to be inducted into the Ted Knight Saskatchewan Hockey Hall of Fame.

Gerry James, who was the head coach and general manager of the Estevan Bruins when they won their first Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League title in 1985, will be inducted into the Hall on July 24 in Yorkton. The announcement was made Friday night.

James, 85, is one of seven individuals who will be inducted into the hall this year. He was part of the Terriers organization before joining the Bruins for the 1984-85 season.

A star in both hockey and football, James is the only person to play in both the Grey Cup game and the Stanley Cup final within a 12-month span, as he won the Grey Cup in 1959 with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, and competed in the Stanley Cup in 1960 with the Toronto Maple Leafs.

After retiring from professional sports, James became a decorated coach, guiding several Saskatchewan junior hockey teams, including the Bruins.
