The South East Aaron Well Servicing midget AA Goldwings have wrapped up top spot in the Saskatchewan Female Hockey League.

The Goldwings defeated the Regina Rebels 2-1 Wednesday night in Regina to pick up their 20th victory of the season. With a 20-1-1 mark, they now have 41 points, five more than the Saskatoon Comet Legends and the Northeast Aces, who are tied for second in the league’s overall standings with 36 points each.

Saskatoon has two games remaining and the Aces have one game left, so they can’t catch the Goldwings.

The Goldwings came out flying Wednesday night against the Rebels, as Khloe Bedore scored 6 1/2 minutes into the first period to give her team a 1-0 lead. Marci LeBlanc scored with six minutes left in the first to double the advantage.

The Rebels scored once in the second, but strong defensive play by the Goldwings limited Regina’s chances the rest of the way.

Kara Zelyck was in goal for the Goldwings, who swept the season series with the Rebels, their biggest rivals.

The Goldwings will finish the regular season this weekend. They play Saskatoon at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday and the Northeast Aces at 1 p.m. on Sunday. Both games are at the Harry O Memorial Arena in Midale.
